Gulab Jamun in Brampton

Guest favourite at Friendz Dhaba

Gulab Jamun is how a Punjabi meal ends. Dumplings of khoya and a little flour are fried slowly to a deep amber, then rested in a warm cardamom and rose syrup until they drink it all the way to the centre — soft, spongy and served warm.

About Our Gulab Jamun

The name comes from gulab, meaning rose, and jamun, the dark plum-like fruit the dumplings resemble. Getting them right is about patience at the fryer: the oil has to stay low so the outside colours slowly while the inside cooks through. Rushed on high heat, a jamun browns in a minute and stays raw in the middle.

Our syrup is scented with green cardamom and a touch of rose, kept warm rather than hot so the dumplings soak without falling apart. Two to a portion, served warm, and easily shared. It is the dessert that closes most tables on our menu, and a fixture of every party order we send out.

Served Warm, the Way It Should Be

A cold gulab jamun is a firm gulab jamun. Ours are held in warm syrup and portioned when you order, so the sponge is soft and the syrup still runs. If you are collecting a party order, we pack the jamun and syrup together so they stay soaked on the way.

The Best Meal to Finish With It

Anything rich and savoury sets it up perfectly — Butter Chicken with naan, Chicken Biryani, or a vegetarian spread of Dal Makhani and Karahi Paneer.

“Warm, soft and soaked right through. So many places serve them cold and dense straight from the fridge. These were the real thing.”
